Few Things To Do With Leftover Rice

It is easy to estimate the amount of rice when you are cooking for yourself and your family. But what if, there is an uninvited guest coming to your house and you have to cook for him as well? Or if you throw a party, you would probably cook rice more than enough to serve the guests. There are too many possibilities where you could have leftover rice which most of us have experienced. But the question is, do we force ourselves to finish the "little" bit? Or throw it away? Or feed the dog outside the house that is not yours? Or keep it in the fridge and eat it some other day? Here, we would like to recommend you some ways to cook the leftover rice other than reheat it in a microwave or steamer which most of us do.

Fried Rice

Have you ever wonder the fried rice you eat sometimes is a bit sticky? It is because the rice is too wet to be fried. It does not happen to the rice after putting it in the fridge. The rice will somehow dried a little, becomes grain form like granules and does not stick to each other. It is the best time to fry the rice with such condition and will produce the best result of fried rice. Yummy!

Tips: Put the rice on a plate and not containerize it while it is in the fridge. The "drying" effect will work better.

Porridge

To some porridge lovers, here is some good news for you. You do not need to take a long time to cook to get your soft porridge. All you have to do is just use the leftover rice as a start off point to cook your favorite congee. Put it in boiled water and add on anything according to your preference or you can just have it as a plain congee. Now, you can list porridge as one of your breakfast menu! Cheers!

Tips: You can cook the porrdige even with leftover chicken rice. It will still become your delicious porridge. If you do not want so much of stirring to prevent the porridge stick at the bottom of the pot, try using a non-stick pot. It works better.

Rice Crackers

If you do not have any fridge at home(very unlikely) and having the spare time, you can make them into rice crackers. Your children will like them! First, dry them under the sun for few days. Then, deep fry it like you fry prawn crackers. It will get crispy and crunchy. You add flavor to it by dipping it into sugar water, not too long, if not, it will lose its crunchiness.

Tips: You can try it with palm sugar(gula malaka) or you can even add malt sugar and sesame to make it even more tastier.

If you have not enough leftover rice to do all the things above, you can keep them in the freezer until you collect a good amount of them. They do not get spoil in the freezer. There are still yet many other ways to do with your leftover rice, it all depends on your creativity. Try it out!
