3 Best Group Adventure Trips in Selangor For All Ages

Mission: To organise an adrenaline-filled experience for

  • Three families on a bonding trip, ages from 4 to 55

  • To include the rugged and the gentle

  • To fit a minimum of budget and a maximum of an overnight stay

Can we accommodate everyone and still keep the group together? Let’s break it down into simple objectives:

  • Objective #1 – Budget and time:

There is no shortage of attractions immediately outside KL. Klang Gates Quartz Ridge is less than an hour away for climbing enthusiasts. Flyboarding and a host of activities in Putrajaya is also an hour away. Reducing travelling time from KL works best.

  • Objective #2 – Something for everyone, in the same place:

At Kuala Kubu Bharu, you can body-surf off the rapids or simply enjoy wading in rainforest waterfalls by Sungai Selangor. On Bukit Jugra, you can paraglide off the top of the hill or amble the historical sites. The itinerary should accommodate both the energetic as well as the gentler folks.

  • Objective #3 – Max out the fun:

Make it memorable for the kids! Resort packages are normally cheaper when the fun is inclusive of accommodation and breakfast. If you are visiting during public holidays, anticipate a shorter fun time due to queues and crowds. So, stay overnight!

Here are 3 different, but equally notable, itineraries: land-based, water-based and sky-based adventures to suit our objectives.

Semenyih EcoVenture is a 20-acre outdoor resort and recreation park located 60 minutes’ from KL. It is purpose-built for 12 varied types of extreme land-sports, for example wall scaling like a Ninja Warrior, ATVs and mountain bikes over 5km of rugged terrain. You are encouraged to ‘play hard, get dirty and have fun’! Those who prefer a slower pace can relax in the 10,000 sq feet swimming pool, trek the gentle jungle and river trails to reconnect with Mother Nature, or just chill and fish for a catch to be cooked by the on-site chefs.

This ‘one stop fun spot’ is complemented by 3 restaurants, from casual to formal, a Karaoke room and a range of facilities perfect for the group setting.

If you want to feel what it is like to sleep in a container or a pipe, choose to stay in the resort’s unique accommodation, recycled and repurposed from shipping containers and concrete pipes. A villa, camping tents and dorms are also available to suit. Prices range from RM50-RM200. If you subscribe to Booking.com Malaysia, you’ll get 10% off your booking.

Tadom Hill Resorts is 45 minutes’ outside KL, in Banting. This bamboo-built eco-friendly resort is tucked amidst a series of limestone caves . The star attraction, a magnificent turquoise lake, is where you unwind and relax in any acrobatic or chillax manner that takes your fancy. If you have been inspired by the Olympic dives, here is your practice ‘pool’, resplendent with swinging ropes to execute styles a la-Tarzan. If you are less into getting wet and wild, then just spend time savouring the euphoria served up by the lake as you lounge on it in buoyant bamboo chairs. The water is deep, but life jackets are plentiful.

Land-based adventures are found directly next door at Tadom (adventure) Base Camp. It is expected to be fully-operational in October. Until then, group bonding can be enjoyed, back at the Resort, over simple pleasures at the B.B.Q pits or roasting marshmallows in bonfires.

Do stay overnight. Choose to share a Bali-esque bamboo hut or sleep in the hammocks commune, tents or chalets. Prices range from RM90 - RM250, inclusive of breakfast, dependent on what you choose.

Its proximity to KL makes it easy for a day visit (Passes cost RM15-20 each). Grab will get you there from RM70. Check out savings for various Grab deals.

Skytrex Adventure 40 minutes from KL, is based in 817 hectares of forest land in Shah Alam. FUN here is Recreational, Safe, Eco-friendly and Educational. Choose your level of participation from Little Adventure, Big Trail or Extreme Challenge. Most visitors’ who have climbed, swung, balanced, ziplined and traversed the aerial obstacles, 3 to 22 metres high, here have repeated the same sentiments: “It was physically testing and challenging but very rewarding..”, “I am not that fit... it was worth it”, “Awesome experience…TripAdvisor.

This is THE safe place for the faint-hearted to (at least) attempt to get out of your comfort zone, for the adventurous to be put to the real agility tests and the adrenaline addict to get topped-up!

Each circuit lasts 2-3 hours and costs RM35-RM60 per person. Do account for about RM30 more for additionals like park entrance, gloves, bottle holder, lockers and drinks. Food is scarce on-site, so bring your own packed.

Don’t miss the Skymatch games (RM20-35 per batch of games) for the group. Hiring bicycles to check out the forest trails is definitely a good way to round off this day trip. The park shuts at 1:30pm on weekdays and 3pm in the weekends. If you are travelling home which is not in KL, do look out for savings with Catchthatbus here!
