Rockin’ around the Christmas tree…

It’s that time of the year again where shopping malls, hotels and cities try to outdo each other in the most outrageous, innovative and unique Christmas decorative displays to usher in the festive season in style.

Not to be missed at the very center of most displays – a towering, majestic Christmas pine tree, traditionally decorated with all sorts of ornaments, glittery baubles, twinkling fairy lights and a huge gold star at the very top. But today, Christmas trees have morphed into all sorts of shapes, sizes, colours and concepts. We bring you on a breath-taking journey of exploring the most out-of-this-world, imaginative and creative Christmas Trees thus far.

Claridge Hotel’s Luxurious Burberry Tree

Under my umbrella, ella, ella…located in Claridge Hotel, Mayfair, London, this lush, extravagant tree is made with more than 100 umbrellas in gold and silver metallic finishing and surrounded by 77,000 lights!

Christopher Bailey, Burberry’s CEO, said he intended to explore the relationship between light and dark to reflect the playfulness of the season while taking a gander at the English weather. Hence…the umbrellas.

The tree is placed in the lobby of Claridge Hotel to welcome guests and bring a ‘wonderful touch of festive magic to their stay’ these holidays. Rain or shine, we can’t take our eyes off this gorgeous tree!

Disney's Plush Toys Tree

Greeting travellers at the bustling St Pancreas Station in London, this massive tree is made entirely out of 2,000 cuddly Disney plush toys!

According to the general manager of Disney Channels UK & Ireland, the toys from the tree will be donated for a good cause to a children’s charity named Kids once it is dismantled on 4th January. Such a wonderful and meaningful gesture to bring smiles to the kids this festive season!

How many Disney characters can you spot in this tree? We spot our favourite cheeky snowman, Olaf, Mickey and his best friend, Pluto and wait…is that Sully from Monsters Inc?

Tallest LEGO Tree in Asia

It was only a matter of time till someone attempted to build a tree made entirely of LEGOs– and it was done right here in Legoland, Malaysia in 2012!

Made with more than 400,000 LEGO bricks and decorated with 260 LEGO Ornaments, the tree stood at 9 metres tall and took approximately 10 weeks to complete. A team of nine people assembled the tree which weighed more than 6,000 kilograms.

Built to withstand Malaysia’s weather conditions, the tree was topped with a gold LEGO star and fitted with over 108 LEGO LED Candles.

1000 Heineken Beer Bottles Tree

Taking recycling to whole new heights, this tree was created by stacking a whopping 1000 Heineken beer bottles on custom-made platforms in the middle of Nanjing Street, Shanghai.

Shiny and green, the staked beer bottles are unmistakably Christmassy, and somehow we can’t help licking our lips while staring at the structure.

As you may have guessed, beer bottles are not the only recyclable material of choice when it comes to Christmas trees. Ambitious builders have experimented with soda cans, CDs, bike tyres, shopping carts and even half gallon water bottles to create unique sculptures in the name of festive joy.

Macaron Christmas Tree

Wait a minute. Did you say…macaron?

Why, yes indeed. 12,500 sweet, tasty macarons, lined around a 22-foot Christmas Tree in Diplomat Resort and Spa, Hollywood. The world’s largest Macaron tree is dubbed ‘Magical Macaron Holiday Tree’ and took 1,200 eggs, 200 pounds of powdered sugar, 165 pounds of almond flour, and 132 pounds of granulated sugar to assemble.

We can only wonder what will happen to the mound of macarons once the Christmas season is over…
