5 Reasons Why You Should Start Gardening Now
Consider this question: can you imagine driving down a road in the city? What do you see?
Cements…
Buildings…
Oh, a tree! Such a nice sight. J – said our mind
I believe most of us humans would like to see nature in its grandest – especially our eyes which would love a beautiful green sight – but living in the city limits all these to a mere street-full of trees lined by the roads. People living in the city generally lead a hectic life due to their lifestyle, so not many enjoy using their time for gardening after a long day of work.
But if you’re not gardening, you may be missing some of the better things in life!
There are many reasons to start gardening. Even if you do lead a hectic life, you could still consider looking after a small plant. Who knows, maybe you might turn one plant into a garden later on! That possibility aside, here are some reasons why one should pick up gardening at least once in their lives:
Helps Practice Your Dedication
Gardening requires a lot of time and patience, and it’s definitely not a one-day thing. Be it a small plant or your aim is a garden, you should always remember that ‘Rome was not built in one day’, because nothing great that requires dedication can be finished in one day.
Dedication can be cultivated, and one of the ways to practise it is through gardening. Say, if you don’t have the dedication to water and grow your plant daily, what will happen to it? Of course it will wither! So it’s a must for you to have the dedication and also to cultivate a disciplined attitude in order for you to keep your plant alive and well.
Gardening is an easy hobby for children to start learning how to be a disciplined and loving person too, so there are only benefits here and no harm at all! However, don’t leave your children unsupervised though, as some tools for gardening may pose a minimal danger to them. So take that chance to bond more with your children, if you have any that is.
Perfect as Home Decorations
Some may be wondering, why not just buy fake flowers back and place it in the vase then voila, a piece of decoration for the home. But, do fake plants really make it up as a good enough decoration rather than a real plant?
First, let’s compare a few aspects: fake plants feel plastic and obviously look unreal, while real plants give you the green glow every time you water them. Next, fake flowers do not give you the pleasant, sweet flowery scent that real flowers could. Thirdly, fake plants become dusty and will soon just be covered in dust and left in the corner contributing to your home as a junk rather than a decoration, whereas real flowers continue to maintain their clean, green-glow look as you water them every single day.
So, allow me to ask you this one question: which would you choose as a home decoration? A fake plant, or a real plant? I’m sure if you want to have a lovely home, the latter would be your choice.
Greener View, Greener Life!
Before, during, or after work, I presume many of us face our electronic devices for more than half of the day, perhaps even longer than we face our family members or friends. What’s the reason I raise this statement, you ask? Well, the obvious being conveyed here would be that a great degree of harm has been done to the windows to our soul – our eyes.
Facing electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets, or the computer – which is what I’m currently doing – harms our eyes a lot, especially when we are facing it day in and day out for a long period of time. The amount of radioactive emitted by such devices can cause real harm and it’s no joke.
So what should we do to keep our eyes’ health bar green?
Do some gardening, take time off your devices and get your eyes some greens to look at so that they get some time to rejuvenate other than when you are sleeping. This way, you are using your time in a wiser manner and keeping your eyes’ health bar green in colour.
Stay Close to Nature Even At Home for Your Spiritual Needs
Very often, people would say they wish to go to some forest retreat where they can relax among the peace and quiet, away from the loud and noisy city. Especially when people would like to connect with their inner selves, they make comments such as ‘I wish I can lock myself away somewhere, maybe in the mountains’ or the likes.
People don’t just make comments like that. Why do people generally relate to nature when they need to be away from other people and reconnect with themselves? This is because every one of us has a spiritual side which also has its own needs, and being close to nature is one of its needs. Spiritual needs are important too and should be paid attention to, or else you might lose your ‘true’ self if you lose that connection with who you truly are when your spiritual side is weak.
Get Some Oxygen for Yourself – You and the World Need It
The image above asks us, what if oxygen was lost for 5-seconds? Since we can hold our breath without any issue for a 5, we can survive for 5 seconds without it, right? Wrong, a catastrophe would fall upon us all, and we won’t even last for 5 seconds.
I’m sure everyone on this planet knows that we need oxygen to survive, or else every single species on Earth would become extinct due to suffocation – excluding the multicellular animals that live in the Mediterranean Ocean's L'Atalante basin that, according to some scientists, do not require oxygen to live.
However, putting the focus back on us humans, we are heavily dependent on oxygen to survive on this planet, and oxygen comes mainly from nature – trees and plants. In this era, many places are still performing massive deforestation and many other places do not cultivate good practices that protect the natural environment around them, but yet the human population keeps increasing – which means, with the greens decreasing and the world population growing, maybe one day oxygen may run out, not now but for the next hundreds of years then maybe.
So as a human, every one of us bear a responsibility in preserving nature and also keeping each other alive. One thing we can do is to contribute some oxygen to planet Earth by growing a few plants, which adds on some oxygen to the atmosphere. So what if it’s a tiny amount? It’s better than nothing, right?
So these are the reasons why you should start gardening! I believe every one of us should at least have some experience of gardening; life is about experiencing new things and gathering more experiences as you live, so why not? Let’s start gardening and produce more greens!
