Here’s a fun fact: Uniqlo and Fast Retailing’s founder, Tadashi Yanai is the richest and most successful man in Japan with a net worth of about $13.8 billion (that’s approximately RM15 billion!). Uniqlo is the primary subsidiary owned by Fast Retailing Co., Ltd which also owns several other brands such as Theory and J Brand. So, why the name Uniqlo and how did it come about? Interestingly, Uniqlo is a combination of the words “unique” and “clothing”. The company was going to be registered as “uni-clo” but during registration, the staff in charge misread the letter “C” as “Q”, hence the name Uniqlo!).
