After reading this, you will see ALS way differently

First of all, what is ALS?

ALS, also known as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. Some refer it as Charcot disease, motor neurone disease and in the United States, Lou Gehrig’s disease. Lou Gehrig was the first American baseball first baseman.

So what is the symptom?

Basically it cause the individual’s muscle to go weak and eventually the person might lose all ability to initiate and control his or her voluntary movement. What’s left is the bladder, bowel and eye movement until the final stage of the disease. Problems they might occur are not able to walk and even not to use their hands or arms, difficulty or even not able to speak or swallow food. As things get worse the person might have difficulty breathing and it might cause death.

What is ALS ice bucket challenge all about?

Is an activity where the person nominated will be dumping ice water on their head and expected to donate 10$ to bring awareness of this disease. And after that they will nominate one or a few people to do the same. And those who do not complete the challenge in 24 hours, they have to donate 100$ to the charity. Who started it? Not known but is because of the celebrities that have bring a huge awareness to this challenge not to mention the founder of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg that have bring huge awareness to the people especially me.

Here is a story of Anthony Carbajal, a video that everyone should watch. He is a victim of ALS. In his video, the first quarter of the video started up with a sexy car wash of himself in order to grab people’s attention and later on he start explaining about how he suffer as a victim. His mother and grandma was diagnose with the disease too. It was painful to watch that Anthony know that he was diagnose with ALS five months ago at the age of 26. Only about 30,000 people in the United States have ALS, not many people know about it and there is not very much incentive for pharmaceutical company to develop a drug because is not profitable. Not many people know about what is ALS which is why I started by giving a definition. Do spread the awareness and hopefully with the donation and awareness research will be done on it and it helps these people who are unfortunate suffering from these generic disease.

It brings me the thoughts of Robin Williams after watching the whole video by Anthony, first he started a funny video of him in girls bikini trying to put a smile on people face and the question is, was he happy? I mean can you imagine that if Anthony is you, what would you do? while trying to put a smile on people face but deep down they are the one suffering inside. So what do you think?
